This guide explains how to set up a takeoff on the Beam AI automated takeoff platform.

Upon logging in, the home screen appears.

Setting up a takeoff involves three simple steps and takes just two minutes.

Step 1: Title the Project

Type the project title into the text box.

After entering a dummy title, hit enter.

Step 2: Upload Files

Click on the option that says "drag and drop your files here or click to choose files."

Upload the PDF files of your plans from your package. It's possible to upload multiple files, including architectural plans and separate files with specifications. The AI can process multiple files simultaneously and extract information from them.

After uploading a file, it appears as added. You're free to add multiple files.

Step 3: Specify the Scope of Work

Type your scope of work into the box.

This is where you specify what you want the software to take off for you. Instructions should be in plain English, similar to how you'd instruct a junior estimator.

Image

For example, instructions can be specific, like "take off all duct work on sheets m one to m seven," or generic, such as "do mechanical takeoff."

If you're unsure what "mechanical takeoff" means, refer to the scope item on the right-hand side.

The software understands the items in the sample scope of work and will pick up these for you.

You're also able to provide any assumptions you'd like the software to make when setting up a takeoff in the same box.

Image

For example, if no vertical riser diagrams are available, you might ask the software to assume a floor-to-floor height of twelve feet. The AI uses this information to estimate the height of the verticals.

After providing all the necessary information, hit the submit button.

The software then begins the takeoff. Once the takeoff is complete and all quality checks are done, you'll receive an email notification. You're then able to review the takeoff.
